ii Preface The following material has been selected for the course " Discrete Event Dynamic Systems " which is part of the curriculum for students in electrical engineering at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich. The course has been given the first time in the summer term 1998. The book material not only deals with dynamic systems, it is dynamic itself. During the current term, it will grow while following the lecture. The text has been written in L A T E X with the hyperref package for preparing the generation of a file in pdf format. The slides shown in the lecture are produced with FrameMaker and PowerPoint. Some of the referenced demos such as the tools CodeSign, MOSES and the PowerPoint animations will not run on all platforms.
